Hello
I am contacting your club on a personal note.
My mother's uncle George Bunter served with 186 Bty., 96 H.A.A Regt during WW2.
Whether he was with the same unit throughout the war I do not know, but he went through Africa and Italy before being posted to Palestine.
In Palestine he fell off a roof and received fatal injuries.
He was transported to Italy where he later died in hospital of a 'crushed base of skull'.
His report card states that falling off the roof was 'his own fault'.
This is all we know about him, apart from knowing he joined up in Oxford (odd as he was from Stockport), we have few other details.
His name was missing from the local memorial until four years ago but was eventually put up in the wrong place (post 1945).
He died on 8th September 1944 aged 43, so he was very much an older soldier.
He is buried in Bari cemetery.
I would like to ask if any of your members may remember him. It would be nice to know more about him.
