I wonder if you could help me with some information about one of my ancestors, William Clegg. According to his daughter's wedding certificate dated 10 Mar 1880, he was a Master Gunner and she gave her address as Perch Rock Battery in New Brighton. Her groom gives his occupation as "Corporal, Royal Artillery" and was also resident at Perch Rock Battery. A year later, 15 Apr 1881, his son was married and gave his father's profession as Soldier also stating that he was deceased. It is assumed therefore that he died, aged 43, between those two dates presumably on active service.
Could you please let me know if there is any Military organisation or record depository where I could get more information?
