I am trying to find out what my fathers war record is ; I only know a little of what he did during WW2 [ he did not say much to me and generaly kept quiet about his wartime experiences ] ; I have a photograph of him with his platoon as a sergeant , but what he did varies according to which relative I speak to . Some say he was a sergeant in the North Staffordshire Royal Artillery and trained men in the use of artillery , tanks and other motorised equipment and that he was an acting sergeant major in the last months of WW2 [ this is also what he told me ] another relative says he was a cook for the duration of the war presumably with the royal artillery ; I know that he spent some time in Scotland at the time of the German invasion attempt by barges from Northern Europe.
I don't care what my father did as he was a good man and a good father ; what matters is that his memory as preserved in the family mindset is correct .
Could you help me to find a place on the internet or via email that I can discover the truth about my dad and what he did in the war ?
Yours sincerely
Arthur Martin junior
