The term Islamist-fascist has been bandied around quite often during the past 5 yrs or so. I see no connection b/w the two, but it got me to pondering about when the first MODERN Islamic suicide bombers struck during the 20th cent. and where. I know of the Jannissaries, Assasins, etc of an earlier age and their code of honor, but when did blowing oneself up for some cheap tail (72 to be exact) become en vogue this century? I don't recall any stories of this happening during the '48-49 Arab-Israeli war, nor in the Six Day war. I don't think the 1920's mandate issues also created this tension. Any ideas?
