Posted by Dr. Marcus Merriman The Collector then roared at me that no true American patriot could sit in that seat since the last man to do so was Erwin Rommel. Can this story be true? I have read everything I could find on Rommel and even tried writing to Manfred, hoping to find out if sometime in the 1920s or 1930s ER had made a tour of American Civil War battlefields, seeing how Lee and Jackson did it (or didn't). Does anyone out there know of such a trip? Marcus Merriman

When I was a boy in 1951, my mother took me on our annual visit to the battlefield of Gettysburg, PA, This time, she bought me a ticket for the famous ELECTRIC MAP of the flow of the batle over the five days from 30 June to 4 July. I sat in the seat with my ticket in my hand.
