Posted by Phoebus Apollo on 3/29/2003, 1:46 am, in reply to "Re: War on Iraq" my emphasis in bold ----- Going to war is serious business. The issue is not whether Iraq has complied with U.N. resolutions (which is questionable and even if true, not envoked). The issue is not whether the Iraqi people would be better off without Saddam Hussein (which depends entirely on who is put into power after he is ousted). The issue is not even whether Iraq possesses chemical or biological weapons (which I sincerely doubt they'd use in any real offensive capacity even if they did). The only pertinent issue is whether Iraq poses a serious, imminent threat to the United States, thereby justifying pre-emptive war. The pro-war camp has utterly failed to make the case that Iraq poses such a threat. - Ted Galen Carpenter, Vice President of the CATO Institute's Defense and Foreign Policy Studies ----- And that is the only reason I'm not pro-war.
