So, yes, the finish of the Gulf War is fraught with possibilities of "unintended consequences". Yes, nationalist irredentism of various flavors will result. But that is their problem. Turkey's membership in NATO involves the other members, but only to the degree we want to get involved. The language of the treaty requires the members to "consult" with one another, period.

You are entirely correct. I am guilty of thinking like an American. We're like the Borg - "Your culture will be assimilated". We have patriotism of course, but nationalism means drinking green beer on March 17th, or some such thing.
