3 blind mice Live on Thursday 2nd June
A short while ago a member of staff in my record shop in Portsmouth
received a call from the Farmers wife, he said "I have a band on
the phone who want to play your club, they are called 3 blind
mice" "Pass me the phone" I said, "better see how they run then"
That was my brief and somewhat silly introduction to the 3 Blind
Mice. It turned out they wanted a warm up gig outside London for
their tour of Alaska. Well it is pretty cold there, so I thought we
better warm them up and agreed instantly to accomodate them in sunny
Southsea on the 2nd June at Roger Courtney's Open Mike Club.
As a record shop owner and the MC of a weekly open mike club, it
would take something musically brilliant to make me sit up and
listen. I downloaded the 2 free tracks on their website and liked
what I heard, in fact I loved it and went in search of more mouse
droppings on the net. At the itunes website I found 2 complete CDs
containing songs that had made the 3 Blind mice famous and that was
it, I was hooked, caught in a trap, no turning back, just like Elvis.
3 Blind Mice as individuals they have toured and recorded with
Thomas Dolby, George Michael, Swing out sister, Go west, Squeeze,
Level 42, Tom Robinson, Dvid Sylvian, Human League, Nik Kershaw,
Prefab Sprout, Joe Cocker, Sinead O Conner, Oleta Adams, Julian
Cope, Bananarama, Robbie Williams.......the list goes on and on
Alex Grayson, Garry Wonfor, Lyndon J Connah - three lead singers
playing two acoustic guitars and keyboards, occasionally augmented
by drums, bass and saxophone. The sound evokes the spirit of The
Beatles and Led Zeppelin and, equally, Joni Mitchell and Steely Dan.
Little Richard and Stephen Sondheim also make an appearance.
Great harmonies, a little reminiscent of Crosby Still & Nash; lyrics
from strange dark places with bright sunshine bursting through every
Crack; music from a past, or a future, where bands think not of
fashion but of borrowing from everywhere and everyone and creating a
magic all their own.
"The infusion of sound is unbelievable. Jazz, rock, blues and pop
are all merged together into a classic feel of timeless music. Three
men with a passion for music and the skill to back up the passion,
what more can you ask for? They've got it all. The future of music
has never been brighter than it is now and it's all thanks to bands
like the 3 Blind Mice"
