Thursday 26th May 2005- MATT ARGYLE BAND 8.00pm - 9.00pm
Who are the Matt Argyle Band and why are they constantly playing to
sold out venues and festivals in the UK ?
"I think its a groove thing" Matt replies while giving a cheeky grin,
"people seem to be loving the songs and the shows and that is so
very cool, or it could just be Johanna the fox!".
The Matt Argyle Band is a UK based four piece band. They are made up
of
Matt Argyle (vocals and guitars), Peter Lancaster (bass), Carl
Sigward (drums) and Johanna Shiu (vocals, flute, viola). There fans
have decribed them as "a mixture of Barenaked Ladies and Cowboy
Junkies" and"like a week of sunday mornings".
When Matt's previous band, FiyaWater, self destructed in 2001 Matt
took himself off on a short tour of the east coast of Canada doing
solo acoustic shows with, among others, Patricia Murray and Mark
Haines. "It was a very inspired time" says Matt "the sort of music
and talent that I was exposed to on the tour was so different and
diverse I just felt energized". On his return to the UK Matt got a
band together with Peter Lancaster and Carl Sigward, writing new
songs and rearranging old ones.
Johanna Shiu added her large slice of talent and glamour to the band
in 2003 and since then they have been road testing their songs
extensively at all electric and quiet acoustic shows. The first
album Exhale is the result of that road testing and is an eclectic
mix of rock sing-a-longs and quieter acoustic relections.

2nd June 2005 3 BLIND MICE 8.30pm - 9.30pm
Nick Courtney celebrates his Birthday week with the help of this
superb London based band, This is a night not to be missed - This
band is superb!!
As individuals they have toured and recorded with Thomas Dolby,
George Michael, Swing out sister, Go west, Squeeze, Level 42, Tom
Robinson, Dvid Sylvian, Human League, Nik Kershaw, Prefab Sprout,
Joe Cocker, Sinead O Conner, Oleta Adams, Julian Cope, Bananarama,
Robbie Williams.......the list goes on and on
Alex Grayson, Garry Wonfor, Lyndon J Connah - three lead singers
playing two acoustic guitars and keyboards, occasionally augmented
by drums, bass and saxophone. The sound evokes the spirit of The
Beatles and Led Zeppelin and, equally, Joni Mitchell and Steely Dan.
Little Richard and Stephen Sondheim also make an appearance.
Great harmonies, a little reminiscent of Crosby Still & Nash; lyrics
from strange dark places with bright sunshine bursting through every
crack; music from a past, or a future, where bands think not of
fashion but of borrowing from everywhere and everyone and creating a
magic all their own. Oh, and there's not much rapping in it!
"The infusion of sound is unbelievable. Jazz, rock, blues and pop
are all merged together into a classic feel of timeless music. Three
men with a passion for music and the skill to back up the passion,
what more can you ask for? They've got it all. The future of music
has never been brighter than it is now and it's all thanks to bands
like the 3 Blind Mice"

Thursday 21st July 2005 SWEETEDGE 8.00 - 9.00 pm
The name describes the feel of this acoustic based trio. Muz Murray
and Della Perrett's previous band was the reggae/ funk jazz fusion
Rhythm Collision while Simon Cunningham played all over the world
with Los Hombres Inglese. Della is more usually seen playing tenor
sax but she is returning now to her first instrument - her guitar.
She was originally a self taught classical guitarist but she has
written songs most of her life, having absorbed the spirit of a wide
range of influential singers. Muz and Simon are highly instrumental
in directing, moulding and developing these songs with
the 'sweetness' and 'edge' they deserve. Simon brings his unique
percussive style with his unconventional African/Indian drum kit
driving the often uncommon, shifting rhythm. Muz and Simon show
impeccable dynamics and are highly responsive to the emotional
politics Sweetedge's songs express. The band's strengths lie in its
contrast and variety whilst still having a strong identity and
continuum of its own.
