Posted by Nick Courtney Roger Courtney's Open Mike NEW Over 18's Rule. I am introducing a new over 18 rule due to the large amount of kids that have been slowly multiplying each week. Nothing personal to them, but they are slowly taking over the club and are extremely noisy during artist's performances. Also Portsmouth City Council and the Police are not happy with large groups of teenagers roaming through Milton Park drunk and causing damage to property. We do not want to be associated with this type of behavior and therefore have introduced this rule to stop these people entering our club. Next Thursday is "Back to the roots" for the club. The new over 18s rule will ensure that the background noise is kept to a reasonable level and hopefully we can now all enjoy the friendly and fun atmosphere that has been witnessed by many over the last 4 years without anyone else telling me that it is turning into In order that I can concentrate on implementing the new changes, there will only be 1 special guest next week, Dirty Hippy from 8.15pm to 9.15pm. This means there will be an additional Open Mike session for one hour from 7.15pm until 8.15pm and therefore an opportunity for you all to get some bonus songs in before the main session at 9.15pm. (yes, you get to play twice, if you get there for the early session) Performers under 18 will still be welcome, as will children under 18 accompanied by a parent or those who appear on my guest list. Anyone under 18 who consumes alchohol from any source will be asked to leave and will not be allowed back. I would also ask the audience to keep background noise to a reasonable level and to respect all performers and not just the ones that they like or come to see. We have special guests coming from all over the world because of the reputation that we have gained from our large, friendly and appriciative audience and it would mean a lot to me, if this were to continue in the future.
