First of all I would like to say that the comments on this blog regarding Delta Elemental have got far too personal and I would like Steve and Helen to know that each comment is only the view of the individual concerned and not the view of the majority. It is unfortunate that their fans have not spoken in their defense, leaving this blog one sided and more like a public hanging then the fun it was meant to be. I am sure that no malice was intended by anyone and that the comments were not supposed to offend.
I actually like the more mellow songs that Delta Elemental or Steve (solo) has performed in the past and have always complimented Steve when he has toned the performance down. Unfortunately the barn is not the right venue for the "Steve Walker wall of sound" and when the music becomes too complicated or too loud, the audience vote with their feet.
Last Thursday Helen's vocal mic was on full volume for the entire performance and she was still not loud enough to be heard over the music. The CD backing track was too loud and Steve continued to ask me to turn him and the CD up even louder. It was a no win situation and it was uncomfortable for myself and the audience to witness the reaction that followed. I have tried to balance their sound on many occasions and even given my own time outside the club night to help with this ongoing problem. Therefore the easiest and obvious solution was to end it here.
I hope that Steve and Helen will continue to attend the club and will take my advice and play an acoustic set that will appeal to the majority of our audience. I believe that they are both very strong minded and talented individuals and more than capable of putting this unfortunate episode behind them. If I am wrong, then I wish them both all the best for the future.
Kind Regards
Nick Courtney
