I had been looking forward to this week for ages as it was my mate Rich's week - and I knew he was going to be brill - I ended up looking forward to it for a few other reasons too....which I will come to....Rich was wonderful - he knew exactly what he was doing, got really relaxed, performed some quality choices (including the favourites that people ask him for), introduced some banter half way through (which he thought he wasn't going to) and basically gave us top notch entertainment for an hour - captivated everyone with his stage presence.
- and still left enough battery power in my guitar for my set! yay! LOL (I was worried for a minute - having not brought a spare).
Highlights of his set for me were:
Delicate: best performance he's done so far - perfect.
Bright Smile, Dark Eyes: as it's Rachel's song. Hi Rach. (thanks for helping out with the raffle again)
Not a Job: Just because you don't hear Elbow covers much - and me and Rich love Elbow.
Trouble: Rich doesn't enjoy playing this one - and it was an excellent performance - really got into it - love hearing him do the end bit "she gives me lo-o-o-o-ve" etc
Keisha, Leigh and Rory (!!) dancing and singing on stage to his "Push the Button" - shame Trish wasn't there with the camera on that bit - with Rory in his smoking jacket, pointing and winking as he sang "Push, push the button..." LOL
Tribute: Rich does this so well! - he "acted" even more this time - had me laughing my head off - brilliant - listen to the way he sings "of the road" at the beginning and the obvious devil snarling - he even gave us the scatty bit at the end - classic.
Nice moment too when the audience sang David Gray's "Babylon" with him as he stopped playing the guitar.
I'm gonna stop there and do Kramer and the open mic bit as a "Part Two" as it might make it "tidier" (you gotta try these things....)
See you in Part two hopefully...
