A Goddess, A Genius & Andy Muscat! (27th July) - Becky Jerams & Gareth Howells Night
Right, Well WHAT CAN I SAY?!
Its 11:15 and Im over an hour late home,
because I just couldnt tear myself away.
BECKY JERAMS is, to be precise, a goddess. Every song seemed to be reaching out to me personally. I could relate with her own work so much. I said to Gareth the best way to describe her set would be wet but by no means with reference to her music, just because I cried all the way through it (soppy wanker( because she is beautiful. In every way. Broken heart song represented teen angst through and through whilst Crazy, Spit and Dinosaurs and her new song (Im sorry I didnt catch the name) were all brilliant, revolutionist and dare I say- feministic political statements, which just had me awe struck at her obviously brilliant mind. Chasing the tide was a nice gentle one (yeah yeah it choked me up) and it kills me to love you had me full on crying, much to the entertainment of Mr Kennard, probably. Id like to hope she doesnt write from experience but listening to her, shes a poet. And obviously, its from the heart. timothy I was forewarned about but nobody could of gotten me prepared for that, actually, stunning. you cant ever say you werent loved was my favourite. Im now a BIG fan (can you tell?) of her music which seems to depict exact, true, raw emotions. No fancy metaphors. The real nitty gritty. Alanis and Sheryl would be impressed. Speaking of which, she did and ABSOLUTELY ASTOUNDING cover of you oughta know what a song! which sent chills down every one anywhere near me and you could see everyones faces dropping. Her version of Buckleys Hallelujah brought the whole pub to a stand still and she ended on a crazy song about the beatles, and a haircut genius, very clever and funny. I just one complaint really.
WHERES THE FECKIN CD?
and Gareth was shite as usual
HAHA! OH MY MR HOWELLS. I knew yu were good, but by god! Never expected that, not at all. You are a musical genius sir and I am honoured to have heard it. Now. I tried to nick your set list but I didnt coz I was in the loo. Eek. For all To See and good for you my favourite which also happens to sound like a gwen stefani song :S opened the hour and after 10 minutes it was brilliant fire and he was off! Well it felt like ten minutes, but judging by how late home I was, I assume he used the full hour. I have to say though I cant comment much about your performance coz I spent most of it watching your son! We all did in fact. Later to be named mini Gareth he was singing along and nodding his head and it was adorable!../ shame im skint else id have got a cdbrilliant show
JAY MUNDATY IS A LIAR AND A CHEAT. Hahaha. Love you really Jay
I do not believe for once instant that hes been ill coz he did maybe tomorrow by the stereophonics perfectly. No glitches, and his voicewas fine. The swine.
The skies, or well, two of the skies. I forget his name but it was Rosis brother and a girl did sex drugs and rock n roll their own song, which was good. Obvious oasis influences there. But as ever, played superb.
THE POMPEY BIRDS! You have got to be impressed with these 2.(only 2 this week) how old are they? 12?13? (sorry if youre older dears) but they have BIG voices. Big Confidence, and by the looks of it BIG attitudes to match. Excellent rendition of I was I was a punk rocker . really enjoyed watching it, hoped they enjoyed doing it,
Jack was back! The soul man himself (what a genius child) most entertaining thing youve ever seeb, or your money back.
Then a shy girl called imogen played summertime on the clarinet. Was very nice and got a good applause, which made her go very red, bless.
Then cest moi! After I managed to get the hecklers to shut up (note to self: never ask for audience input. Ever) I played me & yu against the world. Was a really awful performance but no1 could hear over all the others singing anyway
(THANK YU!!!!!!) And was nice to feel appreciated for a bit
Après ca came jona nd bard. Lovely song called morning view by newly named band out on the balcony avin a fag who were formed 4 days ago. Jon sounds so much like Shane MacGowan its uncanny. Good stuff, yu too bradleyyyy.
Then came a new performer called Dougie. Who played redemption song. Clean strong voice and good guitar, puts himself down too much thought, silly man.
(Pot. Kettle. Black.)
ANDY MUSCAT- IF YURE READING THIS I LOVE YU! Haha, had to be done. I was a bit apprehensive about his performance this week after last weeks. Hendirx with no backing is like.. well roast dinner without gravy (except I hate gravy). Just not quite right. But he did it! He did it! I didnt want him to be good (little show off J ha) but OH! He was. His first words were I learned this on Sunday and I will admit, I had a brief moment of panic. But then I heard a mumbled ACDC. End there really. Acdc= yes please. He was unbelievably confident (as usal) and sang his little heart out. Think his family have some competition, I am his biggest fan LOL. (also heard hes giving guitar lessons shame I know how to play eh? )
MOVING ON (woo Andy Muscat)
After andy was NICK. With his enw song. The lyrics are incredible, and I dont care about all you swiss rollers, this song is his best. Ever. Shortly followed by swiss roll on popular demand. Fun for all the family there. Lol. Good job little kids think its about cake huh!
Raffle. As usual I won nought (due to only ever buying one or two strips, probably) and rich and lulu got all the prizes (yay! Havnt seen lulu in a while? Nice to have yu back) and the mother in law won. Haha. Well done.
Delta elemental played that song I know the words to with the scary film clip in the middle. Steves eyes disturb me shifty!. Helens just absolutely amazing. Steve milked a half hour guitar solo at the end. Git.
Chris played a song that I lost totally. Cant tell yu what it was about or its name or any sort of distinguishable tune. It just went straight over my head im afraid (sorry chris) but knowing him im sure it was beautiful. Plus brad and geoff were distracting me. Silly boys.
After chris was Del. Nick said he ruined the atmosphere by dedicating it to his late granddad whos ten year death day it was. But I thought it made the song even more beautiful. Thanks a lot Del. Just what I needed, another tear jerker.
FINALLY. Cool Bananananana.
Ive missed them lots! But matt (aka mr bananananana) is a LIAR. (naughty) as he said they were playing Pink Burger Bar (an excellent song) when really they did a VU cover of waiting for the man. Note perfect and incredible, as usual. Mr banananana yu have more talent in yur little finger than I have in my whole body. I am very jealous of this and think everyone should be.
Everyone come to banananan Saturday on sat evening yeah?
And swim with leigh
Finally after some very intimidating messages from meine mutar, I went home. (thanks for walkin with me geoff, sorry about global). And im GUTTED. I missed sam and lee do kids and rory doing metal heart.
By the way sam has the early hour next week and hes beautiful
should watch me thinks.
One more mention of how absolutely astounding BECKY JERAMS and Gareth were.
Thanks to all who came, and goodnight. x
