Becky and a small village headline at the Barn
Current mood: busy
Category: Music
Last night at the Barn was another good night of singing and general good vibes.
I got there late this week so I missed the Model Village but it seemed unanimous from the people who did see them that they were excellent - so I will have to catch them next time I get the chance.
Becky is a regular at the Barn but she still managed to pull some impressive surprises out of the hat last night - most obvious surprise for me was the Arctic Monkeys song - I think the song she wrote that she performed a couple of weeks back, that I commented on as being her best, was still my favourite - but she ran through an impressive list of different styles to cover - she covered people like Tracy Chapman, Arctic Monkeys, Eric Clapton....and loads of others that no doubt you will find out about when Becky comments on the blog (Becky???) LOL - I should have started my notes before half way through the open mic bit! LOL
- Becky seemed confident and looked like she was enjoying it which was great - excellent hour set.
The open mic featured all regulars this week (which may be the first time it's been EVERY performer) - so there were some favourites - but also some surprises...
James gave us a beautiful version of Drugs Don't Work (perfect song for him to do - the melody and tone of the song suits his voice perfectly) and followed it with something he wrote that day - whci hwas great.
Jack and Sian impressed us all again - with Jack getting WELL into Soul Man LOL.
Leigh surprised me by happening to choose my two favourite songs from her repertoire - great to have her back - there was a gap after her hour slot.
Andy gave us Stevie Ray Vaughan!! - then Vaughan's alter ego, Jimi Hendrix LOL - he keeps pushing himself....
Karaoke John I want to rename him after he took his song by the scruff of the neck, shook it with his teeth and spat it out like a KARAOKE WARRIOR!!! - he is now, in my eyes, The Karaoke Warrior! Grrrrr
Sam gave us two excellent perofrmances - the first of which had him mentioning Roy Bailey!!! Yay!! That man is not mentioned enough in life. Thanks for that Sam! The second song was one he wrote and I thought it was bloody brilliant!
Lee brought us Ronan Keating! - that was a surprise! Still beautifully sung as ever!
Me and George moshed to Delta Elemental.
Rich dedicated a song to my wife - she LOVED that. Thanks for that mate - beautiful performance again. Looking forward to your hour!
Right at the end, after Laurie's rock n roll, we were treated to a fantastic acapella performance of Fairytale of NewYork and another Irish song that was excellent too - a surprise appearance from John, the guy who organises a lot of the local scene (and has done for many years - he's moved now apparently so I think there'll be other people taking up the challenge)
Fantastic night again - next week it's me for an hour!!!!!! yay!!
I haven't mentioned Rich and Rachel's complete annhialation of the raffle!!! - blimey! every ticket you heard Rachel scream "RICH!!" LOL - I think they went home with about 10 prizes!!! LOL
