Infra Rouge and the shadow of Big Brother!
Another night at the Barn - this time with two rock sets starting the evening.I couldn't get there in time for Delta Elemental but managed to see most of Infra Rouge - and really enjoyed it.
Fave tracks were "I want to find my way" and "like a rose" - thought it was funny that they did "Rocking in the free world" as I was thinking of doing it on the night I play with them (Love Music Hate Racism).
I also thought it was great that the drummer looked like a 60s beatnik.
The open mic slot was filled with James and Rory doing their musical chairs LOL - this time James sang really high pitched (No Rain) which had Rory laughing (bit harsh! LOL) while he was accompanying him.
Cocaine was great - with Nick and James on either side singing the "chorus" with him - somehow the line "cocaine running around my brain" fits Rory...I don't know...
Leigh wowed us again with a beautiful version of Martha's Harbour and a soaring version of Songbird - classic stuff - everyone should go see her when she does her Edge of the Wedge spot soon.
Maxwell was really good too. Nick went for an unusaully aggressive retelling of "Leaving on a jet plane" - his guitar seemed to take a battering that night. During Walk I thought he was gonna break ALL of the strings! LOL
- he got so into Walk he forgot the raffle!! LOL - remembered when he noticed the prizes on his right I guess (you can't miss them - there's about 50 of them).
My mate Richard played - I hadn't seen him before and he was excellent. One thing I thought was funny though - it was his first appearance at the club and I think the first open mic he'd done for a while - and his first song had REALLY strong language in it! LOL - a gentle song, sung sweetly..but with loads of big sweary words! - great performance though!
- then there was another new guy to the club....a young guy called Andy.
WOW! - WOW! - HUGE voice.
HUGE!!! voice. - and what? 13 years old? 13? 14? - something like that.
Great stuff - he did 3 songs (Nick gave him another one as we were all shouting MORE!!!!) - and he did his parents proud (they were there). Looking forward to seeing him again!!
I played "By Choice" Brilliant Fire" and one I hadn't played there yet "At least it should" - and Nick said as I was walking off "you thought you were in concert there didn't you mate! LOL" - I don't really understand the comment but I was VERY relaxed....felt more intimate that night....
BUT THEN -some of the audience were at home watching the opening night of Big Brother!!!!! - what is the matter with people!!!
An old friend of Roger Courtney, Tom did a rude innuendo song called "The Tractor Song" that had everyone laughing (even 13 year old Andy probably) which was a lovely surprise (to Tom I think too)
Del or Dirty Hippy finished the night off with a couple of great (as usual) performances - Woodstock (love that song), Video Killed the Radio Star (that was a surprise!) and Break on through by the Doors.
A great night, with more room for dancing than normal.
