Another week at the Barn.To try and make up for the ridiculously massive blog last week - I will give you highlights of this week's thang. (and I can't find my notes)
- so Nick did Jean Genie before anyone arrived - while he was rubbing the guitar against the mic stand - saucy bugger. Shame everyone missed that - I think he was gonna get his trousers off and everything.
- the band were GOOD - reminded me of Siouxsie and the Banshees a bit - but with the acoustic setting and self-penned stuff, had it's own character. Nice though.
So who and what was played?
We got all sorts again - a System of a Down tribute again, that half came back to bring us Green Day - and just escaped Nick's noose LOL
Rory and Jamie did Blind Melon's "No Rain" (love that song)
Del had me all over the place with Levellers "One Way" (should have heard me singing/shouting along) and Floyd's "Comfortably Numb" - aided by the reliably excellent Steve who gave me my first opportunity to hear "Leaders of the Free world" by Elbow, done on an acoustic with one performer - totally cracking - got me singing my heart out from the back. He gave a lovely Jack Johnson too.
Brad went for it and gave us his debut on stage -he should get up there again - he was backing Jay - who got 2 songs tonight (so presumably he went outside and did a few more for the neighbours to get them out of his system) - he did his "You" - lovely song - and plugged his CD he's made (which i'm doing now - £4 - aye just £4)
Leigh was amazing - she did two more if her own, she writes beautifully and everyone on our table (which was packed this week with a motley crue of people from different walks of life) said she was brilliant. Unanimous that.
Lee who looks like a choirboy was excellent again - his mate Sam played too, excellent stuff. (can't remember what they played - need my notes) - but I remember signing along. Lee's cold has gone now too it seems.
Tricia read some erotica to us, with a punchline at the end (but I reckon it was the first bit she liked reading) and Terry supplied more of his art for the raffle (yay!!).
Jack Courtney gave us more Elvis - and an enormous scream as a demonstration of what to do if you win on the raffle (which he did again when he won LOL)
Me and the two Ri(t)chie's played too - and Nick offered us a November slot on the spot (slot on the spot!) - which we gratefully welcomed. Loved singing "Love the one you're with" especially - the second one was a bit odd because our adrenalin got the better of us and guitar technicalities were thrown out the window - leading to us getting complications that we couldn't solve without stopping the performance (which we didn't - although we all stopped playing the guitar at different times - I was just slapping it most of the time) - a lesson learned there - luckily the vocals were layered so it may not have been too bad. LOL
My wife finally reunited with John - from Before and After - that was great as she wasn't there the night I saw him a few weeks back - but he had to leave early in the end.
We ended up going to bed extremely late as Richie went back with us and we sang songs until the early hours. Classic.
