Thursday 17th at the Milton BarnHow many times can I start my thoughts on the night with "another great night at the open mic club"????
- but it was!
Some surprises, as always, with some familiar faces/songs too...
The main act was an interesting blues guy - the highlight of his set for me was hearing his acoustic, instrumental version of "Albatross" by Fleetwood Mac! - that was great - but other bits of his set were good too.
Jon was first up for the open mic bit - and he played a couple of great tracks again, I think they were both written by him.
Becky started her set with a great version of Banana Pancakes by Jack Johnson - then one of her own, and her confidence seems to be growing with each performance.
Rory - Rory is gonna be famous one day i'm sure of it.... What the hell was he singing in the first song???? I don't say this because I couldn't hear him - I could! - and I loved it! - but it seemed like the most surreal set of lyrics i'd
ever heard.
I think - if I observed correctly last week - that he got lots of people around the club to write the lyrics line by line LOL - classic! He did Werewolves of London again!!! (love the fact that he covers Warren's stuff) - that went down well.
There was a great singer - that I haven't seen before called Lee (sings like a girl) - for some reason he wants to be called that - even though he doesn't sing like a girl. He had a fantastic voice - hope he plays again.
Steve played again - and had requests for more Bowie - this time he did Space Oddity again - but promised more Bowie another time. He also did Travis' "Sing" - which was well done.
Del - love his voice - did a cracking version of Born to be Wild - first time i've heard it acoustic...but it's his voice that made it anyway...
I shocked myself again by playing something I didn't plan on playing - this time it was a song I played for the first time in 14 years, only a few days ago - a song from the Before and After days....it was weird playing it again LOL - I also did Brilliant Fire as someone shouted it from the audience...
Jamie closed the night again with a beautiful "Wish you were here", the Floyd classic - and "Wild Wood" - and his new song that I think is called "You" - great stuff.
- another great night - can't wait for the next one!
