Got to say Gareth's right, the Open mike night at the Milton Barn is a brilliant night. It was a great night all round, with a wide variety of acts....from the brilliant to the Surreal!
I've been twice now and each time I've seen and heard acts which I won't be forgeting in a hurry!
One of the great things about the place is that any age can play and they really encourage the young guys (Young 15-19 sort of age).
One young guy did his own version of Wearwolves of London...Whilst he was clearly not the most experianced player in the world the crowd really got behind him and sung along with the chours...epic stuff!
Gareth is being a bit modest though as he has only mentioned his own performance very briefly.... Well he played "Brilliant Fire" and "The Circle" which was brilliant as they are both great songs with amazing lyrics which have to power to leave you emotionaly drained at the end!
Through out the evening most of the performances from the other musicans were good, but Gareth certainly displayed the most passion. When he played you could see that these songs really meant something to him, he had not just pulled them out of thin air a couple of hours ago like some of the others had and I think thats really important at a gig Suffice to say I'm really looking forward to next time he plays!
So my advice to you....
Listen to Gareth's songs on his site www.myspace.com/negnec
If you can get to the Milton Barn on a thursday night GET THERE!!! If you cant, keep pressuring Gareth to do gigs and make some CDs!!
Cheers,
Ben
