Posted by John Robinson We designed this plan (like most of ours) to be built with prefabricated wood trusses. These trusses are simple mono trusses (single slope) on the sides , and the center section is a parallel chord scissor truss. This truss is 16" deep, with the same slope on the inside as the outside. All of these trusses rest on two girder trusses which run from front to back on each side of the kitchen/greatroom areas. Using dimensional lumber instead of trusses would require a bit of design work. The actual slope on each side of the roof surface is just over 24'. Most lumber yards stock lumber up to 20' long. It would not need to run full length however, if you kept the bearing lines where we have the girder trusses now. You could use a 16' roof joist over the side sections, and then a 10' rafter with collar ties over the center section. Please let me know if this is confusing. John
