Posted by Mark Dupuis Just as I have read in many of these messages, my wife and I are pretty excited about the FG2072 design. We have a lake front lot and had a contractor out on the weekend looking at the site and the house layout. We love the main floor, period. One concern we have is brightness due to our lot slope/trees/available sun etc. as well as the fact the house has porches, which tend to make a house dark. The family room is great with the dormer above open to the ground floor. My question is, what can we do with the loft. First of all, we don't need the space. But eliminating it we feel would open up that central hallway too much if the ceiling was vaulted front to back, although we would welcome your opinion. We have had 2 thoughts, open it up to the second floor ceiling above the front door just leaving a small loft in the centre of the house OR don't bring the loft as far towards the back of the house, leaving only a small loft above the entrance and hall closet. That would allow the 2nd floor window in the loft to get more light through to the main floor. Are either of these feasible without major changes and/or can you think of anything else. We want the light from the front dormer to get down to the main floor. Our afternoon sun is on the front of the house. Thanks, and really great designs you have.
