Annie, we're building an I series which also has the barrel ceiling. The trusses are no added expense. Framing the radius of the eyebrow dormer, if you are paying a construction crew, will be more expensive as it is much more labor intensive. Ed is building ours himself, so the cost is in time, rather than money.
We used 1/2" sheet rock on the barrel ceiling. It bends more than you'd think. We built the apartment over the garage first as a test run.
