Hi Tammy:
I built the first K series that is featured on the website. This was a three day build so we had lots of activity.
I used top quality metal clad wood windows, as supplied by Loewen Windows. They are made in Canada and are very high quality, which is very important with all that glazing. They were able to make the custom designed muntin bars in the corner windows which really complete the custom look I was after. The window frames are 'Tuscany Brown" (which is a grayish black/brown) and the operating sashes are Cranberry. I used simulated divided lights with real wood (in this case clear fir) so they look amazing.
Because there is so much glass we decided to keep the operating sashes to a minimum. This really reduces the cost and makes them more energy efficient as well. They are triple glazed, dual argon with heat shield coating as well.
I am installing window quilts to keep the cottage warmer when we are not there and at night. In summer the 3' overhangs keep direct sun off the glass.
I will send you some photos of our complete cottage. I am extremely happy with the decision to have all these windows. It is a very unique space and we hate to leave to come back to the city.
If you have any other questions, just pop me an email. This cottage is located in central Saskatchewan and we are happy to do 'tours'.
John
