We built an H Series home in 2006 in Washingon State and faced the same dilemma in installing a forced air propane system. Although we had designed in 9' ceilings on the first floor we did not want to lose that wonderful height to ductwork - so we combined heating sources. The first floor has propane forced air plus a propane fireplace; we did have to drop the utility/laundry room ceiling a foot for the return air ducting with its register on the upper wall of the stairs. The second floor has electric hydronic baseboard heaters (Marley - very quiet) in the bedrooms and pic-a-watt heaters in the bathrooms (there are also heated towel racks). Because newly built houses have such efficient insulation and hot air from the first floor rises to the second, we hardly ever turn on the baseboard heaters or use the pic-a-watts.
