Posted by Rob Young The easiest solution to create more room in the loft is to pull it out further towards the greatroom. We have done this in the past and it has turned out quite well. We extended the loft out to the extent of the kitchen island, approximately 5-6 feet. This also creates the opportunity to have better task lighting in the kitchen as the new loft area creates a lower ceiling that area. This added square footage is very cheap as well because all you are really adding are some floor joists, subfloor, flooring over and the ceiling finish in the kitchen. The alternative would be to square off the back of the home, rework the bathroom layouts to have the stairs make more of an l-shape and so on but this would take us a fair amount of time to achieve plus not only that cost, this added square footage would be substantially more than the first option. Please let me know if either of these options work for you. Rob Young
