We have called the surveyor out to give us our reference points, so that we can visually see where to put the cottage, as well as making sure we have room to eventually add our dream timber frame great room overlooking the lake. For us, what has been useful reading this board is that as novices, there is a huge comfort zone that we can ask questions and get answers. Not only on design but some construction issues as well. Life events sure haven't left us in a position to have someone else build it for us, but we do feel really comfortable after visiting this site for over a year that the two of us (and the baby) can build a very nice, comfortable cottage.
