Posted by John I had answered your message last week, but for some reason, it never showed up. The best book I have seen is called A FIELD GUIDE TO AMERICAN HOUSES, by Virginia and Lee McAlester. It has good descriptions of the various components of each style, as well as lots of photos and drawings. It is published by Alfred A. Knopf, 1991. It should help you sort out any house you see. Keep it in the glove compartment and you will have fun identifying your favourites. Thanks,
