I guess you know absolutely nothing about the music industry and are naiive. There are countries in Europe that have less than 15 million people living in them and singles still get pressed - it's easier to break even in a market the size of 300 million (USA) than 15 million (smaller European country). Why you choose to think otherwise is beyond me. Just because Canada has gone the "download-only" route does not mean a market the size of USA will do so. Canada has something called a "blank media levy" which means in exchange for downloading of MUSIC (not movies, etc.) being completely legal, the levies get collected by our royalty society and then get paid out to all composers, authors and creators of music. Since that is in place, a lot of Canadians prefer to download than go buy a $7 single, that's why just before singles started getting pressed to CD in the mainstream here in 2004/2005, the price of them had dropped to no higher than $4. Ultra believes in cutting costs but Ultra also has no clue about promotion beyond a band/artist's tours (which usually get organized by the band's tour manager anyway). Ultra is a "wait & see" label to be honest, they are not proactive. Also, Ultra got lucky they have Pitbull otherwise their revenue stream wouldn't have a golden escape the way it does now. Sorry for being critical about record labels in North America (so that does include Canada and Mexico at the very least.... all the way down to Panama too but I know nothing about "Latin America" at this point) but they certainly operate in ways that just boggle my mind compared to Europe - Europe actually embraced digital first, long before North America did, and they use it now to their advantage. Some nations have a limit of how many minutes of recording time can be on a single according to IFPI so they will put 20 or so mins of mixes on the single, and the rest will go on digital as "exclusives". The idea actually works! Also, the labels spend a lot more time there getting involved in promoting their artists.
