The "Dying Breed" was caused by the "Greed" of the 4 Major Labels. 
10 Years ago or so most of the popular songs were available on single.Music stores had at least a few rows if not several rows of singles.
Then the Major Labels in their "Infinite Wisdom"
Stopped releasing some of the more popular songs on single in an effort to "Sell" the entire cd.(Higher Profit Margin)
As the singles began to decline of what people "Really" wanted to buy(Not cheap singles of songs they were putting out for .99 cents or 1.99 so the song would chart better)
People stopped looking for singles.Singles racks became smaller & smaller til they were gone.I believe this really hurt the Dance singles that were released.There was much less to browse through when people were looking.
I agree with you I'd rather pay a little more for the CD than for a download.
I don't think the quality of MP3 comes close to the Cd quality when I mix.I always have to turn up the volume when I'm using a downloaded song.
Legally Downloaded by the way.(Just thought I would make that clear) 
The "ONLY" reason there are legal sites to download music now is because the labels were "Forced" to do this or not make any money at all from singles.I think the labels are suffering the consequences from their greed & thats why they are having all the financial woes they are now.People are "Ticked Off" at them for "Screwing them over" Now they are paying the price.
