I finished it, and I enjoyed it pretty well. It is a quiet book. As you say, it has no humor whatsoever. What kept me reading? I wish I could say, and yet, I know that if you're not feeling it, nothing I could say would help. I'm sure Guillermo will say something that makes it sound good. I find a certain amount of mystery in the book. I don't want to say too much about that now as it might be something of a spoiler. Perhaps I also find the dialogue good. I feel the characters.
I'll probably never get a tattoo either. I just don't know what to get. I've thought of the last line of Samuel Beckett's The Unnamed. 'I can't go on; I'll go on.' Or one of those grandly pessimistic lines from Shakespeare, but I'm not motivated enough by those. An 'art tattoo', like the ones described in this book, interests me, but where do I get that? I imagine lots of tattooists call themselves artists, but....
