I've gotten distracted from my reading of 21st century novels by something of a project. I'm thinking of trying to make up a class, an introduction to the British novel. I don't know if I'll ever get around to it or not, but I've begun the necessary rereading. I've finished Wuthering Heights and Pride and Prejudice. I'm reading Bleak House now. When I finish Bleak House, I'll start The Garden of the Evening Mists. Then I'll go back to one or the other of these two projects. I've filled the time slot I intended for the British novels, so there is less hurry about that. If I go on with it, I'll be rereading Middlemarch, Tess of the D'urbervilles, Women in Love, and quite a few others.
