Thanks Sterling. I read The Monkey's Paw in 9th grade, but I don't remember it at all. I don't think anyone knows it here. I've looked it up online and will read it soon. If I use it, I'll have to shorten the hell out of it. I need something I can read aloud in under half an hour. I should have mentioned that before. This is for a class with a pretty low level.
The other class I mentioned, if I get it together, would be an advanced class. I'd use the original, unsimplified stories. I wish there were some books like Best Short Stories of the 90s. There are, of course, such volumes for each year, but that's too many stories for me to comb through even if I could get them here. There is a new book available, called 100 Years of the Best American Short Stories. I may end up getting that, but some of the early choices seem odd which makes me suspect the later choices, and I'd have to get my sister to send me the hardcover book. I need something I can photocopy. Nobody here cares about the legality of that. I think mine is the only licensed windows program in the country.
