I also thought it was a bit of a laboursome read. After the little boy was saved from drowning, I realized that the book was leaving a bitter taste in my mouth so I stopped eating ... I mean, reading it.
My husband read it, he didn't like it. I don't know why.
Another very labour-intensive book is the One Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet. I have a lot of questions to you guys when we come to discussing it.
