Has anyone else read A Dead Man in Deptford?
What did you think of it?
I thought Burgess perfected his blend of Elizabethan and modern English in ADMID. It feels Elizabethan, but is considerably easier to read than if he had actually used the true Elizabethan idiom. Although I sometimes was bogged down in philosophical discussion, I thought that overall it had more narrative drive than NLTS. The inevitable outcome is almost like Greek tragedy. Kit's very personality contains the fatal flaws that lead to his death. Very Shakespearean, or Marlovian, for that matter.
