: In June Dalkey Archive will release a novel by the
: Turkish author Ayse Kulin titled Farewell: A Mansion
: in Occupied Istanbul . Lale, are you familiar with
: this author? One of the blurbs says she is the
: "most widely read" Turkish writer.
Yes, she is very popular. My mother is a loyal reader of hers. I am very happy to hear about this new book in English. I will recommend it to my Canadian and Turkish Women's Association of Ottawa (yes, very long and cumbersome name) book club.
I read one of her books, it was based on a true story, about a Turkish-American woman who had become a colonel in the US Armed Forces and had fought in Iraq. Then she died mysteriously. Her husband who was trying to get a divorce (which the woman was not granting him) was suspected but not charged. It was a light-weight book, nothing of literary value, although the story was interesting.
I am hopeful about this new book, especially in English.
Thank you for the link,
Lale
