I'm still beginning the book (in original Spanish), so give me a little time to start commenting. I'm in page 60, and so far so good. Let me check about the bookstores, I still haven't read about any in the novel.

: This is one I'm not going to read. 2666 is enough
: Bolano to last me the rest of my life.

: It seems in Mexico City in the 1970s you couldn't
: throw a rock without hitting a poet.
:
: Yes, it seems. And they are real poets, as in, they
: want to hear one another's poems, and they want to
: read other poets, local and international. They are
: interested in Baudelaire and Raymond Queneau and such.
: They are not just some phony poets, they really care.
:
: Natasha Wimmer's introduction to The Savage
: Detectives is my idea of the perfect introduction. It
: tells you what you want and need to know about the
: author and the environment in which he wrote, but it
: doesn't spoil or prejudice your enjoyment of the novel
: itself.
:
: Really? I will read it then. I was leaving it to the
: end.
