Name: X. C. Barnes Message: This book is gripping. It is a classic. It will not let you stop reading until until every page has been turned. The story is fantastic and the portrayal of period American life is both crystal clear and stunningly contemplative. Steinbeck could be considered a genius in book for this work alone. The story is not spoon fed to you. The reader has to make a lot of his or her own conclusions throughout and it is a story for those who like to savor their reading, take their time and read each line like its the only one on the page. Though the novella is short, it has more meaning in its few words than most novels do in hundreds of pages. This is not a book for those who prefer the taste of sugary, predigested tomes.
