I guess maybe we all do that - pick at least partially by who nominated it. I'm always balanced between picking books that I most want to read with distributing my vote among all nominating. For example, I don't know that I would have chosen The Tunnel, but since it was Joffre's only nomination, I wanted to vote for it. (And I'll probably be happy that I did.)
One of the things that I love about our group is that it introduces me to books that I never would have found on my own. That's the other reason that I don't just vote for my own nominees, although obviously I want to read them.
