If we pick Nothing Like the Sun, Anthony Burgess' novel about Shakespeare, we might consider pairing it with A Dead Man in Deptford, his novel about Christopher Marlowe. They're both relatively short. The latter appears to be out of print, but inexpensive copies are readily available on Amazon. The books were written roughly thirty years apart, one from fairly early in his career, one from the very end.

: I've been in Buenos Aires for a year now, and I've
: decided to be offended because the club hasn't yet
: read an Argentine author. I want to nominate one that
: wasn't on Steven's list. Of all the books I've read by
: Argentine authors or set around Buenos Aires, the one
: I found most enjoyable was The Tunnel by Ernesto
: Sabato. It's supposed to be released in English for
: the first time in years in December:
: It's a short book, so we could read it along with
: another Argentine book like The Invention of Morel
: which I've read before but won't reread since I don't
: have it here.
:
: Sabato died earlier this year, a few weeks short of
: his hundredth birthday. Preperations were already
: underway for a celebration. There is a huge picture of
: him on the side of a building here. It's the whole
: side of a large building, the kind of thing only
: Michael Jordan could get in the U.S. There were long
: articles in newspapers too, and stuff on tv. In the
: U.S., Shakespeare could come back to life and only get
: a couple lines on page 7.
:
: Of the other nominations so far, I recently read
: Nothing Like the Sun and I liked it pretty well. I
: will certainly vote for that. There have been other
: nominations that I want to read someday, but they'll
: probably have to wait. Maybe there's something else
: I'll vote for. I'll decide between now and voting.
