I've read A Fine Balance, The Stone Diaries, and The Known World. I've been reading Rabbit Is Rich for the last few days, but I'm also starting into our May selection, The Tomcat Murr. That leaves just Small Island, so I guess I should read it soon.
If you want to read it together next year, I'll wait on reading A Visit from the Good Squad. That'll give me a better chance of finding a cheap used copy.
We've talked before about the validity of these awards. I certainly wouldn't say that these are the six best books from the last 30+ years. Blood Meridian, Midnight's Children and Housekeeping would have to be on that list. But at least, having received that much recognition, we can assume that they are important and worth reading.
