Last night author Jennifer Egan was award the LA Times Award for fiction for A Visit from the Goon Squad. Having previously won the Pulitzer Prize and National Book Critics Circle Award, this makes it, according to my count, only the sixth novel ever to win three major literary awards, with a chance for yet more awards to come.
The other three-time winners are: Rabbit Is Rich by John Updike, A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry, The Stone Diaries by Carol Shields, Small Island by Andrea Levy, and The Known World by Edward P. Jones. (Again this is by my count only, and my idea of which awards are "major.")
Another item: Sterling, I know you are a fan of Rikki Ducornet. Have you seen that she has a new novel out titled Netsuke? It's about a psychoanalyst! I'll be receiving a review copy soon.
