I think I've posted this here before, but perhaps not. Sometimes I think so much about how I'm going to say something that I get the impression I've already said it. Anyway...
In the Yale lectures on the American Novel that I watched online the professor said that Roth was widely consdiered a misogynist. The books of his I've read, while not anti-female by any means, could easily be called sexist. In The Human Stain and Sabbath's Theater, the intellectual and creative women are either frigid or neurotic. While the desirable women with healthy sexual appetites are either illiterate or have very limited education.
So while Roth may not be a right-winger, he is definitely not a standard issue liberal.
