I've been reading the Bible as well over the course of at least two years. I have it on my cell phone, so when waiting to have a tooth filled or my oil changed I can run through a couple of chapters of "begats."
I'm about halfway through the Old Testament. The amount of cruelty and bloodshed--divinely mandated in many cases--is astounding. I wonder how Christian scholars reconcile this with the pacifist teachings of the New Testament. Joffre, does Understanding the Bible address questions like this?
