-- : I like to know what Harold Bloom thinks.
Even though I've submitted my list, Joffre's comments regarding Harold Bloom sparked me to reconsider Little, Big by John Crowley. Bloom has called Crowley his "favorite contemporary writer." He has described Little, Big as a "neglected masterpiece." It is included, with other books by Crowley, in The Western Canon. Bloom was instrumental in helping Crowley to obtain a teaching position at Yale.
The book can be described as a fantasy, but it is much closer to One Hundred Years of Solitude than to The Lord of the Rings. It has been a favorite of mine for many years (first published in 1981), and I have re-read it many times.
