I've just read Samuel Beckett's First Love. Wondered if anyone might want to read it and talk a bit about it. Perhaps it wouldn't take long to get it from your local libraries. It's in The Complete Short Prose of Samuel Beckett and First Love and Other Shorts. I've long had some interest in Beckett, but my attention was drawn to this story a couple years ago by Francine Prose's Reading Like a Writer. I believe I also recently read that John Banville called it a perfect short story. I think it's an interesting story. I like it well enough. It's just under thirty pages.
There are a number of famous short stories I want to read. We might do this from time to time if people are willing. I must warn you, though, that it takes a while for my library to get things. I am not inclined to buy volumes of short stories since I don't like them much. I only want to read a few very famous ones. Many short stories are online. I don't think First Love is though.
