Maybe. But now I am thinking it would make a really funny film, a slapstick comedy.
I am not on the same judgement level with the rest of you guys because I wasn't aware of the story of Job (I knows bits and pieces of biblical characters and sometimes I confuse them, I certainly did not know enough of Job to make the association on my own, I read about it afterwards, in the introduction, which I always save to the end.)
I haven't read Pamela or Tom Jones either, so I started taking the book quite seriously (amusing but still a plausible story, plausible as Dickens is plausible), and then it went crazy with head-spinning catastrophes. Quite late in the story I stopped to say "It is not 'he's gotta be kidding,' it is 'he is kidding.'"
