I am not reading what has been written in this thread, because I am still reading the "Boy." You know how I am like with respect to plot revelations, I try to protect the element of surprise as much as I can.
I really enjoy this book. I had previously said that "A Fine Balance" was like the "War and Peace" of India. But now I am thinking that "A Fine Balance" had too much drama, so much so that it lost some of its plausibility.
To compare to War and Peace, I think the "Boy" is a better candidate because of the wider range of the society it covers: The shoe industry, the music industry, the bourgeoisie, the politics...
Books from India are interesting to me from another aspect: the language. They say Urdu and Turkish have the same roots. But regardless of that, almost all of the languages spoken in India have common elements with Turkish, even though I have to stretch the resemblances a little bit.
