I'll probably start Barth, though I don't know when, with The Sot-Weed Factor. I say start; unless I really enjoy it, I probably won't read any more Barth. If I do, it would probably be Lost in the Funhouse.
I think I'm as amazed to find people who like Pynchon as I am to find those who don't like Jane Austen. I'm willing to read The Crying of Lot 49 again and hope for the best because it's short. I'm afraid short is the only virtue I can imagine in a Pynchon book. Are there any more short ones? I don't know if I'll ever reread Gravity's Rainbow, maybe in twenty years. The only sentence I enjoyed in the whole book was that one about it being difficult to percieve just what the f**k is going on. I don't question the book's value, but I don't get it. I notice there's an Understanding Thomas Pynchon book. I've read some other books in that series. I guess I'll have the library get it for me. Do you have any advice for reading Pynchon? Maybe I'll still be able to remember it when I can bear to read GR again.
