Yeah, I think his plan to drug her is the most disturbing thing when you first read the story. If one thinks Lolita initially entered into their relationship willingly, then it may remain the most disturbing thing, otherwise probably not. The 'seduction scene' is tricky. One can easily imagine that Humbert might have taken almost anything Lo said or did as seduction. How much of what Humbert says is true? Or how much truth is there in what he says? If the answer is none at all, then his story is very elaborately planned indeed. Conversation between Hum and Lo both before and after the first encounter seem to lend some credence to Humbert's account. Charlotte seems to feel that Lo flirts with Hum. Lo seems to imply at the end that she'd have happily run away with Quilty from the beginning. But, of course, it all comes through Humbert. I suppose he tells just enough truth to make the lies more believable.
