The accident is mentioned a second time on p. 128, and on p. 132, someone says, "No, there was no accident."
I've read The Voyeur, our two for this month, La Maison de Rendez-vous and Djinn. I also read a book called Understanding Alain Robbe-Grillet, but I didn't find it particularly helpful.
