: Does anyone have a suggestion that can help us or
: force us to check the earlier threads for new
: postings?
I looked at the help screen information for "boardhost" to see if there was a solution. Currently the message threads appear permanently in the order in which they were originally posted, newest at the top. There is a setting you can change that will sort the message threads so that the ones with the most recent replies will move to the top of the list, regardless when they were originally created. This would make replies to old threads stand out, but it also might be confusing to see things in a different order every time. We could try it for a few weeks to see if we like it. Here is the text from the help screen:
"Our Thread Order feature allows you to choose whether threads will be sorted on your board in the order in which they were posted, or instead in the order of their most recent activity.
"The default behavior of a Boardhost message board is for threads to be sorted by their posting date. If you choose to enable our option for threads to be sorted by activity, this means if someone replies to a post near the end of your board, the next time you view the main page of your board that entire thread will be above all other threads. Threads will constantly be moving around on your board according to their most recent activity.
"Important: The "Sort by Activity" option will also alter the way in which messages that exceed your message board's message limit are removed from your board. Instead of the "oldest" thread being removed (which when sorting by posting date is the thread at the end of your board), the thread with the least "activity", which has not received a reply in the longest time (which will, of couse, also be sorted to the end of your board) will be the thread that is removed. Although it is still the thread at the very end of your board that will be removed, this is not necessarily the "oldest" thread on your board. This could also mean that in a rare circumstance, if a single thread were to stay around long enough to itself exceed your message board's message limit (ie: if your limit were 1000 messages and that thread receives 1000 replies), and push all other threads off of your board, that thread in its entirety would be erased from your board, leaving your board empty."
